George Mitchell: In Search of Peace
Published in Hardcover by Heritage Publishing (January, 1996)
Author: Alberta Gould
Average review score:

An informative, superbly written political biography.
In Search Of Peace, George Mitchell, Alberta Gould offers a compelling and informative biography of the former Democratic Senator from Main, George Mitchell. Originally appointed in 1980 by Maine's Governor Joseph Brennan to fill the unexpired term of Senator Edmund Muskie, Mitchell won his own seat in the United State Senate at the next election. Upon serving eight years in that august body, Mitchell was made Senate Majority Leader, after the President, the most powerful political position in the country. While an excellent political biography, Gould reveals George Mitchell as an outstanding and dedicated humanitarian which would eventually lead him to a post-senatorial role of international peace maker in Northern Ireland.

Grammar Wars: Language As Cultural Battlefield in 17th and 18th Century England
Published in Hardcover by Ashgate Publishing Company (January, 2002)
Author: Linda C. Mitchell
Average review score:

A treat for English Lovers
I loved this book. Not only was it fascinating, but also I learned a lot without making my brain hurt. Linda Mitchell nailed her subject and made what could be a really dry boring subject interesting. Her research is strong and clearly presented.
I love the way she points out the use of language and words. Reading this, I was amazed at how short a time ago language was in disarray. Every page made me think, and in every chapter I found something humorous about the words, dictionaries, or situations presented in the book.
I have no complaints about this book. I look forward to her next dictionary book.

Granddaddy's Gift

A Special Gift
The United States has seen some turbulent times in its history, especially for African Americans. Granddaddy's Gift highlights one aspect of American history, the African American struggle for the right to vote. The stars of this touching story are Joe Morgan and his granddaughter whom he calls "Daughter" but everyone else in their community affectionately calls "Little Joe" because she is like his shadow. Joe Morgan is a man that has worked hard all his life and in spite of his 8th grade education, he owns his own land on which he farms and raises animals. He stresses the importance of education to his granddaughter through both his words and actions. When it comes time for someone in their Mississippi community to stand up and attempt to register to vote, Joe Morgan answers the call. As a result of his decision he, his family and ultimately the entire African American community are faced with adversity, but in the process he teaches his granddaughter some important lessons.

Granddaddy's Gift illustrates how the freedoms that many of us take for granted are indeed a gift from the generations before us. The illustrations perfectly complement this keenly written story and add a personal touch. The story instills a sense of pride in the legacy left behind by ordinary but brave people that helped to change the cultural climate of this country. I highly recommend this book, not only because it relates historical information but also because of the values the story represents.

Compounded plastic materials
This is a really useful book for design engineers who need something more than just data sheet information on compounded plastic materials. It gives both the pluses and the minuses, so that it is not hype.

Happy Hands and Feet
This book is full of creative images made with a childs handprint or footprint. It gives you ideas for every holiday and season. I have enjoyed using the art projects as gifts or for my baby's scrapbook. When you look back on your artwork it's hard to believe that your hands and feet were ever that small.
